State Advocacy
School Funding
Illinois PTA supports Tax Reform to support
school funding reform and more funding for public education. The
Illinois PTA supports and will continue to support any legislation
that includes and an income tax increase, property tax relief, and
increased funding for public schools which is guaranteed by a
continuing appropriation for public elementary and secondary schools.
Understanding that
position:
The Illinois PTA continues
to recognize that the state needs additional funds to handle the
structural deficit, so we have supported a tax on some services so
that social services could be able to meet the needs of our citizens.
The Illinois PTA does
not support the increase in tuition tax credits.
A majority of Illinois
school districts have budget deficits.
Illinois ranks 48th in
state funding for public education, providing only 36% of school
funding.
Illinois is the 5th wealthiest
state in the nation.
Illinois school funding
varies from under $5,000 to $18,000 per pupil.
EVERY CHILD OF ILLINOIS DESERVES AN EQUITABLE
AND ADEQUATE EDUCATION, AND NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
