The
Hunting Ridge PTA offers many wonderful programs for the children of
Hunting Ridge School. Each year our successful fund raising
endeavors allow our PTA to present grade level assemblies for the
sole purpose of augmenting the
outstanding curriculum being offered to our kids here in District
15. Our PTA spends approximately $40 per child for all the PTA
programs brought to our children each year. Ask your children to
share with you their thoughts on the grade level assemblies
presented to them by our PTA. For your information websites are
included.

5th Grade - 1776
The 5th grade students learn about how difficult it was to get the
proposal establishing the Declaration of Independence passed by the
original 13 colonies. Dressed in white lacy shirts, vests, long
coats and three corner hats, the American Eagle actors sing about
and debate about the issues that faced the members of the Second
Continental Congress in June of 1776. The presentation highlights
the disagreements representatives had about rebelling against King
George and abolishing slavery in the colonies. Actors portray John
Adams, Ben Franklin, Richard Henry Lee, Thomas Jefferson and John
Dickinson with entertaining humor. Agreement of the proposal was
finally reached after Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration and the
slavery clause was withdrawn. 1776 gives the 5th grade students
greater understanding of the importance of our Fourth of July
holiday.

stories of John Bapiste DuSable's life and the experiences of a
survivor of the Chicago Fire. Dr Gesundheit uses his juggling
skills to portray Fito, a character who tells the story of the
Columbian Exposition of 1892. Students join in the fun by

Kindergarten - Weather Workshop
Our Kindergarteners get to bring weather inside by building weather
machines during their Mad Science workshop. They create their
own wind, clouds and rain. Students enjoy other hands on
experiments too during this half hour workshop. They use
pinwheels and fans to experiment with wind and tornado bottles to
create and observe vortexes. The use of thermometers give the
children the opportunity to move the mercury up and down by placing
the thermometer in cold water and covering the tip with their warmer
fingers. This workshop makes science fun and interesting for
our young students.
