National PTA has a great section on their website that offers e-training
in many areas of PTA including: PTA Basics, Planning and Goal
Setting, Running a Successful Program, Advocacy, Resolution Writing,
Planning your PTA Year, Conflict Management, Parliamentary
Procedure, and more.
In PTA Basics, you learn about the history and the structure of
PTA. You learn about programs and issues that will help
strengthen parent involvement in your school.
In Planning your PTA Year, you will learn tips for planning a
successful year with the right types of goal setting and utilizing
planning strategies.
In Conflict Management, you will learn
the basic principles and
techniques of conflict management by immersing yourself in a simulated
real-life situation, guided by immediate feedback and expert advice.
Parliamentary Procedure is a course where you will learn
how rules of conduct positively effect the
decisions a PTA makes while ensuring fair and orderly unit operations.
Advocacy—speaking for every child with one voice—is a guiding
principle of PTA. Do you know which types of advocacy are the most
effective?
Effective Advocacy
for Your Child
is a course that provides both basic and intermediate information for
members who currently are working on issues that affect children, as
well as for members who want to learn how to take action.
This course focuses on
-
Defining advocacy in a personal, meaningful way,
-
Defining your issue,
-
Forming a chorus of voices, and
-
Sustaining your vision.
Whether you speak at your child's school, before your state
legislature, or in front of the United States Congress, your efforts
are vitally important.
